Unhappy MSDE SP3 MSM Run-time fail (Dev 7)

When attempting to run a updated project with MSDE 2000 that uses the new MSM files from SP3 I get a 2602 run-time error. Stating there is a problem with xpstar.sql.{GUID}.

I have found details on InstallSite.org regarding similar issues but don't know where to go with this one. I've tried lowering the xpstar.sql.{GUID} sequence number entry in UPGRADE.MSM->Files but this only stops the installation at it's initialisation way before previous installations.

Can any one shed light on this, I would use proper support but my boss is a skin flint and my 30 days has been and gone.

I'd appreciate any help.

Regards,
Mark. (Kaivalagi fijian for european, you can guess the rest)

Attached the screen shot of the error when running the installation package in test mode.

This is VERY strange.

1. Are you using a Standard (script based) or Basic Msi project?
2. What version of Developer are you using (service pack level)?
3. Did you use the MSDE 2000 wizard in the Merge Modules view to configure the MSDE modules?
4. Does this happen on all machines or just one particular machine?
5. Have you tried rebuilding your setup and running it again?
6. Did you run this setup on a machine that already has an instance of MSDE 2000 installed?

Thanks!

-Standard project
-7.03 with hot fixes (couldn't find a 7.04 upgrade as such)
-Removed all MSDE2000 merge modules from before and re-ran MSDE2000 wizard to add new modules in
-Happens on build machine after build once I run in test mode
-I always re-build when there are changes
-No SQL Servers of any type installed on build machine

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards,
Mark.

Hmm I'll give that a try and let you know what I find. It could be the fact that you ran the setup in test mode, or the fact that you are running it on WinXP. The MSDE 2000 modules have close to 180 custom actions in them. So even if you run in test mode, the files don't get copied locally but some of the custom actions may have launched. Regardless, I'll give this a try on an XP and let you know what I find.

FYI - You should be able to upgrade to Service Pack 4 when you have the time. Perform a "Check for Updates" in Developer to see if you can see this.
