    MDAC 2.1 Full Install

Anyone have a solution to the MDAC 2.1 Install problem?

Here is what I have tried....

    1) I Tried several ways of running the MDAC exe with the command line
    parameters.
    Does not work.

    2) I made a C program which creates a window, it starts the MDAC install
process, and waits for the process to
complete using a semaphone. Installsheld Kills boths tasks, before the
    MDAC installation is complete

    3) I tried writing a Custon DLL extension which does about the same thing as
the EXE. Except install shield does
wait , however the INstall hangs.

    4) I tried installing the MDAC componets by hand, selecting the files. Boy
    what an undertaking...
Any way I deteremined that the amount of changes involved in the
    registry and system file placement
was too risky to do on a users system. If you go this route you will
also find that Install Shield GPFs on
several of the self Registering dlls involved in the MDAC install so you
will have to use Regsvr32.exe to
register most of the Active X components. I actually like this Idea,
because it cuts the install size down
tremendiously which is great if you are doing Web Based deployment.

WORKING SOLUTION But it is not very professional looking

    5) The only way I could get a complete automated install was to
    1) Decompress the Mdac Component to the install dir,
    2) Place a key in the
    HKEY_CURRENTUSER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runonce setting a
value to install the mdac component. However This will also require a
reboot. So that will be two reboots for the install on a MDAC
2.1 application. I believe I will have to use this as a work around to solve
my problem. Because I have to ship! I also have to ship the
    product as a single EXEcutable.

I really like this install pacakge, however, I need a fix for this. I cannot
ship products to customers! I have
a contract which I cannot furfill without this. I really would hate to have
to write a install program by hand
after you guys spent a great deal of time developing yours. Obviously I am
between a rock and a hard place.
I would really like a fix for this as fast as possible.... Any Ideas? A
    patch would be great! Something!

    Re: MDAC 2.1 Full Install

    Hi
If you are installing MDAC 2.1 and having a problem then I have a suggestion
for you. What you can do is, Install MDAC 2.0 (FULL). Then do the
    following;

    open windows explorer>programfiles>installshield>installshield express
    2.12>redist>mdac_typ.exe

This mdac_typ.exe is for the MDAC 2.0. Replace this mdac_typ.exe with the
    2.1 mdac_typ.exe. I hope this helps you.
