I have a custom made dialog with an Edit box, and the name of the edit box is svName.. now in my dialog, how do I get the string the user entered into a local string?
I tried using svName, but it didnt compile.

Try this in your install script where you show your dialog.
// szDlg is the name of the dialog
// CtrlID is the control ID that you must get from the _ISUser1033.rc file that is built after you create a dialog and build your project.
// RetVal is the string value to get the text into
//get the text
CtrlGetText(szDlg, CtrlID, RetVal);
//set the text
CtrlSetText(szDlg, CtrlID, RetVal);
Hope this helps.
