View Full Version : Type 19 CA to detect IE5.01; reboot prompt before IE setup can run after install?

Standard project, 7.02.

I'm using a type 19 custom action to terminate the installation if the user doesn't have IE 5.01 or greater installed on their computer.

However, one user reported installing our product on a fresh Windows 2000 PC (which I think has IE5 on it) and having the following problem:

When they try and install the product, the type 19 message appears about needing IE5.01 or greater, and they then exit the installation.

When they did this, a dialog appears with an OK button and this message:

"A previous program installation never completed. You need to restart your computer to complete the installation before running Internet Explorer setup. setup will now close."

The user (and me) is a little confused as to why they got this message? does it have something to do with the fact that the install replaced the Win2K MSI engine with the updated MSI 2.0 engine which needs a reboot (which is normally deferred to the end of the installation)? or is it something else?

Thanks.
