Thanks for implimenting this suggestion (http://community.installshield.com/showthread.php?t=158070)

There's a bug in the implimentation with setting keypaths in the combined view.

I have uploaded an attachment that explains the problem
The file needs to be renamed .wmv after you have downloaded it

I filed the work order IOC-000059172 (for the issue setting a key path per component in the global Registry view), and IOC-000059173 (for the refreshing issue of the key path in the Components|Registry view) so that we will take a look at them. It probably won't get done for the IS 2008 release.

Thank you for your feedback.

Ouch
This is one of the fundamentals of Windows Installer
are you sure its not important enough for the next release?

We're looking at it now to see if it is something that can be fixed in the IS 2008 timeframe. It's certainly not that we don't think it's important, but the bar for fixes goes up as the release nears. There are many factors including complexity, time to fix and time to test an issue (to mention a few) that help us determine what will and won't get fixed given a finite time. Just wanted to clarify that...

Anyway, let’s assume we can fix it. Would you be willing to try it if we post a new version of the binary which contains the registry view code? We would certainly put it through the paces here, but it never hurts to get another pair of eyes on it. I don't know if that will happen, but if it does, we would certainly welcome the extra set of eyes on the change.

Stay tuned for more info (hopefully later today or tomorrow)...

I am sorry, I think the tone of my response was a bit abrupt (that's just my style).

I would be honoured and privileged to help you to test any changes.

I guess I am coming from the MSI camp that doesn't care about InstallScript, or XML/IIS/SQL, etc. customactions. I just want your MSI editor to be the best it can possibly be.

No problems. We always appreciate any feedback. I just wanted to communicate our thought process regarding this fix so we're both on the same page.

Having said that, we did fix this issue yesterday. We need to get a release version that we can post, but once we do that we'll let you know and you can give it a try (most likely sometime today).

Here is the new FrmWrkLib.dll for IS 2008 Beta2 that contains the fix. Please close the IDE and copy it to the C:\Program Files\Macrovision\IS 2008\System folder in order to apply it.

Thank you.

thoroughly exercised and tested. Works as expected.
Many thanks.

An interesting side-effect of the new registry view functionality (the ability to show non-unique data) is that upgrading customers are going to see the registry table duplication that is from various bugs in older versions of InstallShield like this one (http://community.installshield.com/showthread.php?t=158370). Your customers' registry views are going to show the multiple entries that shouldn't have been there and are going to have to do some clean-up.
