Linking a file

I need to be able to have a self extracting exe that has a set of files and folders that are temporarily installed on the system so that we can do prerequisite installs but not keep the files permanently. I know you have Disk1, LastDisk and Other but those are on the SRCDIR and are not copied to the local machine temporarily. How can I do that? We are using a modified version of the bootstrapper and it works off of a set of predefined folders for each piece installed?

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

At least for files, there's the Support Files view; files you copy there are placed in a temporary directory whose location you can refer to with the property (or InstallScript variable) SUPPORTDIR...
