I have one license for developer 8. I just got a new PC, which I am configuring in parallel with doing my normal daily work on my old PC. Eventually I will move over to the new machine, but I can't cut over until I am sure the new machine is completely ready and not missing anything.

I am trying to update Developer 8 on the new box, downloading the sp's, etc, to make sure all is well. At the same time, I am building a release on my old machine.

The licensing monitor won't let me open dev8 on both boxes at once. And if I open it on one machine, I have to wait 20 minutes before I can open it on the other.

This is going to cost me dearly in terms of productivity.

Anyone know of a way to avoid this???

thanks

I suggest the following:
1. On the old machine, install the Developer Standalone build.
2. Uninstall Developer from the old machine (don't uninstall the standalone build).
3. Install Developer on the new machine.

While you are getting your new machine up and running, you can continue to run builds using the standalone build on the old machine.

The following community post discusses licensing with the standalone build that you might want to look at:

I have got very similar situation - plus I am upgrading from ISDev 7.0 to ISDev 8.0.
It looks like I will have to run Standalone build for a while on my machine when upgrading to ISDev 8.0.

Main point is that when trying to install ISDev 8.0 the installation program says "You have to uninstall ISDev 7.0 first, then install ISDev 8.0".
That's not very convenient.

There is a easy solution that this if you must run IS Developer 8 on two machine, switch off the network connection on the 2nd machine before you start. After ISD8 started, you can switch the network connection back on. They will be no complain!

1. Right-click "My Network Places" and select Properties.

2. Right-click you LAN connection and select Disable or Enable.
