View Full Version : CHAINING install creation (merge module, setup file) - impossible?

Simple thing - we work on a tool for developers. This tool, surely, comes with two created installs:
(a) the merge module for the user to include in his setups
(b) the msi file for the developer to install in his machine, which will also give him a copy of the merge module.
Now, am I getting something wrong here or does Installshield simply not support this type of scenario? I seem to be unable to add two different installshield setup's to one solution.
Anyone any advice?

What I'd probably do is this:
- include the msm in the MSI as a file (i.e. from the Files and Folders view.)
- include the merge module from the redistributables view, so it gets installed on the developer's machine.
Hope that helps.

How do you build the MSI creation? I get an error having two Installshield projects in one solution. Not wanted.

Can't reproduce this.
What I did was create a merge module, add a component then build it.
Then I made a new Installscript MSI project, included the file in Files and Folders, and the module in Redistributables, then I built the project with the default settings (didn't go through the wizard - just clicked build on the toolbar)
I don't get any error when compiling or running.

I can not have more than one installshield project in the solution.
So I can have, in the solution (in VS.NET) EITHER the merge module install builder, OR the complete builder. SUCKS.

Ooh. That's something interesting. Try building it from the ISD IDE, as I don't have VS.NET. Possibly a bug in the integration?

Building it from the IS IDE is not an option. I need the integration. Pressing "Build solution" and this thing building everything.
