View Full Version : DEV 8 eats system resources

I have just installed Dev8 and hotfix and upgraded ISDEV704 projects.

After upgrading, I clicked through most of the topics in the View List without changing anything, just looking, and after about 2 minutes I got a low on virtual memory message.

Upon closer inspection, memory consumption had grown to ~60 MB physical and 100 MB virtual. My system needs more memory, but i have NEVER gotten a low virt mem message on it before.

In fairness, it did eventually give back ~50 MB of RAM eventually, but now it is slowly ramping up its usage (now ~17 MB), even though it is just sitting there while I post this message. Each screen event seems to leak ~200k. Additionally, it takes between 5 and 8 % of my dual PIII 1 GHz processors to simply keep itself alive.

Has this gluttony been reported? I did not see it listed under known issues. This excessive resource consumption needs to be adressed.

I was about to post the same issue when I searched and found this post. Not only does isdev.exe seem to grab ~200k per event, but I'm watching it steadily leak between 12 and 50k/sec while I'm not doing anything. It is now headed past 102M and counting, after having started at around ~20M.

Oddly enough, after I compiled just now, it did release 50M and the constant leak stops.

Then, closing isdev.exe and restarting with no project open, it sits there at 20M and doesn't move. As soon as I click on a "recent project," though, the ~12k/sec leak started back up.

Memory usage is now up to 160M and climbing. It would be nice to know if this is known issue. Meanwhile I'm going to have to shut isdev.exe down once an hour (ok, so maybe a couple times a day...it's still annoying)

It seems Developer 7 had a similar (http://www.installsite.org/pages/en/bugs_isd701.htm) problem.
