One of my customers have installed one of my scripts created in Dev 7.0. Now I upgraded the script in Dev 8.0 and rebuilt it. When my customer installs the new version the following error is thrown:
Install
1: The InstallScript engine on this machine is older then the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of ISScript.msi, or contact your support personel for further assistance.
What the **** is this? The file 'ISScript8.msi' is part of the new script but why does it not install on my cuscomers machine? On my test machine the installation works fine.
Since I am in Sweden and my customer is in Florida USA I can't just try is on that machine myself.
Please help.

Have you changed the packagecode?

The script is unaltered. Just upgraded from Developer 7.04 to Develoepr 8.0.
My customer is testing a beta version so I just rebuild the script included the updated files. I.e. my customer have to uninstall the installed version before installing the new version. But I don't think that has anything to do with the installation of the ISScript engine.

Are you including the InstallScript engine with the package? It's a different version of the engine, so it needs to install the newer version.

The file ISScript8.msi is included and besides, the script installs fine on my test machine (clean Win98)

The problem is that the script is unaltered.
Things get messed up because of that.
Change the productcode and the packagecode and try installing it again.

I've ran into this issue as well. If I'm reading this right, we can not do a minor upgrade for existing installs that were built with an older version of the InstallScript engine (in my case 7.02).
Is that the case?

Turned out to be 'Generate Package Code' was turned off.
Check here. (http://community.installshield.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=248431#post248431)

I had the same problem.
Create a new Release using the release wizard.
I have found that you need to do this EVERY time you upgrade your copy of installshield or something stops working!

I also had this error. I had used another product's install as a template for a newer one. Although I thought I had changed the GUID for all the bits I had missed the Package Code GUID in the Summary window. After I changed it the problem went away.
I hope this helps someone. The error dialog was not helpful and threw me off track of the actual problem.
