View Full Version : Launcher Icon

How can I specify an Icon to be associated with my Launcher? I create an exe using the ISMP launcher, but I don't see anyway to specify an icon that will be attached to that exe.
Anyone else deal with this?

You start by adding a Desktop Icon bean to a component in (or after) the Feature that contains the component that contains the Files bean with the executable you want associated with the Icon (in the Product Tab). Be sure that the Desktop Icon bean is AFTER the Files bean that contains the executable, or the Icon won't work (it can't be associated with an executable that hasn't yet been installed, and the beans in the Product Tab are executed/installed in the order they are listed).
Please See the MultiPlatform User's Guide, Chapter 2.2 - Product Actions/Desktop Icon. It contains step by step instructions for adding the Desktop Icon to the Product Tree and setting its properties.

Does that actually change the Icon on the exe that I see in my Windows Explorer window? I already have the desktop icon, but that assumes everyone who accesses my app is going to do it via the desktop. I also have the Start Menu->Programs stuff in which displays the icon. What I want is an Icon on the _actual_ file itself, not any of the shortcuts that point to it.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.
No, MultiPlatform does not provide a way to assign the icon that displays in Explorer for a launcher. It is a great new feature idea, and I would recommend that you go to The Feedback Page for MultiPlatform (http://www.installshield.com/feedback), select "Feature Request", and submit your request. Our Program Manager reviews these requests for feasibility, usability, etc. This would be a great feature to add to our next release.
Thanx for the suggestion!
